Project overview
We were instructed to coordinate a feasibility assessment for additional educational space at an operational nursery in St Ives.
Following a planning appraisal and a feasibility cost exercise, we coordinated ground investigations. This matters particularly in Cambridgeshire, where a high water table means the foundation design needs additional consideration.
Our approach
The ground conditions shaped the whole scheme. This included:
Commissioning ground investigations to inform the foundation design
Designing a bespoke installation including a full civil engineering package to accommodate the new building
Tendering to four suitable manufacturers and contractors once planning was secured
The outcome
The project was delivered in 2026, on time and on budget.
Because the ground was investigated before the design was fixed rather than after, the foundation solution was priced into the tender from the start and there were no ground-related variations during the build.
